Dr. Jeremiah Johnston has been on the podcast circuit promoting his theory that the Shroud of Turin is the actual burial shroud of Jesus Christ. He claims that the image on the shroud is that of Jesus Christ. But for those who know the gospel, it is clear that the shroud cannot be the burial shroud of Jesus Christ.
The shroud depicts the nail wounds on the man’s wrist. But the Bible states that Jesus’ hands (not wrists) were pierced with nails when he was crucified.
But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. (John 20:24-27)
Notice that both Thomas and Jesus refer to Jesus’ wounds as being in his hands, NOT his wrists. Indeed, the hand piercing is a fulfillment of scripture. “For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.” Psalms 22:16.
Johnston knows that’s a problem for his theory, and he addresses it by the often-used artifice of religious hucksters of redefining the words in the Bible. At the 9:05 mark of an interview with Tucker Carlson, Johnston said that the Greek word translated as “hand” in the English Bible could actually mean wrist. But that is not true. The Greek word (χείρ cheir) translated into the English word “hand” literally means “hand,” not wrist, as claimed by Johnston.
Johnston’s explanation cannot overcome Psalms 22:16. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ was a fulfillment of scripture found at Psalms 22:16 where the Hebrew word (yawd) is correctly translated into English as “hand.” Hawd means hand; it does not mean wrist.
Dr. Johnston then replaces the word hand in the Bible with the word wrist. Johnston tries to trick the audience into believing that the Bible depicts Jesus being crucified by being nailed to the cross through his wrist by misquoting the Bible. At the 5:30 mark of Dr. Johnston’s CBN interview, he states: “And remember Thomas in John. Unless I see the nail prints in the wrist, unless I see the wound in the side, I will not believe.” Johnston purposely misquotes John 20:25, where Thomas actually says: “[e]xcept I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails,” Thomas is referring to Jesus’ hands. Indeed, this is confirmed by Jesus when he said to Thomas: “ Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand.” John 20:27. He was telling Thomas to use Thomas’ “hand” to touch his “hand.”
Finally, we know the Shroud of Turin is fake because it depicts Jesus with long hair. God’s word states that it is a shame for a man to have long hair. “Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?” 1 Corinthians 11:14. God would not manifest himself in a manner that he has described as shameful.
So many professed Christians depict Christ as this blasphemous, long haired, blue-eyed hippie with white robes. This is NOT the Jesus of the Bible. It’s HORUS, the catholic (and arminian) false Christ. Man likes to creates GOD in his own IMAGE and God warns all people (including believers) in Acts 17:29-30 “Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:”

This is nothing more than people seeking a sign or proof. The Spirit leads those of us who believe because He (Jesus) is the author of our faith. We believe, because we have faith from the Father, through the Holy Spirit. I don’t need the shroud to believe Jesus existed. You and I cannot convince someone to believe. Some plant and some water, but God gives the increase. (1 Cor 3:6).
If Johnson convinces someone to believe based on the shroud, I presume it will the the seed that falls on the rocks, sprouts up, but withers and dies in the heat. We have the sign of Jonah, 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth. Mr. Hendrie does a fantastic job of explaining the Wednesday burial before the high sabbath.
Jesus was in the tomb no more than 36 hours. I can prove this by scripture. this does not disprove scripture and the sign of Jonah. Read luke Carefully.
