COVID-19 Poses Little Health Risk to School-Aged Children

On May 7, 2020, Nicole Chavez and Artemis Moshtaghian reported for CNN that “Officials in 48 US states, as well as Washington DC, have ordered or recommended school closures for the rest of the school year.” The CNN report revealed that “[s]chools in all five US territories — American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands — also are closed for the remainder of the school year.” The closures included almost all colleges. The CNN article explains that the draconian school shutdowns were to “reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus.”

While many schools have reopened for the fall semester of 2020, as of September 28, 2020, many other schools remain closed and are expected to remain closed during the remainder of the 2020 school year. As of September 2020, only four U.S. states (Texas, Florida, Arkansas, and Iowa) have required the schools to open statewide for in-person student instruction.

All other states presently have a myriad of different plans involving remote learning, restrictions by region, opening according to the discretion of the local school district, hybrid remote/in-person instruction, etc.

President Trump was roundly criticized in August 2020 for defending “his call to reopen schools this fall by claiming children are ‘virtually immune’ from COVID-19 and that the coronavirus will ‘go away” soon.'”

It turns out that President Trump may have been closer to the truth than once thought. While it is not accurate to say that children are virtually immune to the COVID-19 alleged virus, it is fair to say that COVID-19 poses no real health risk to school-aged children.

John Cullen, who is a software engineer and statistician, has discovered an astounding truth that has been hiding in plain sight. In an interview with Jason Goodman, Cullen revealed that the threat posed to school-aged children by COVID-19 is virtually nill.

Cullen analyzed the CDC statistics and discovered that the total deaths of children with COVID-19 across the entire United States for the period of February 1, 2020, to September 19, 2020, for school-aged children between the ages of 5 years old and 14 years old was 31. Over a seven-month period during the heat of the alleged COVID-19 alleged pandemic, a total of 31 children died with COIVID-19.

Please be aware that the statistics include all deaths “involving” COVID-19 not deaths “from” COVID-19. That means that the persons could have died from some other cause but the decedent was determined to have COVID-19 at the time of death. Thus they are reported as a death “involving” COVID-19.   The CDC has reported that 94% percent of people whom they have reported who have died from COVID-19 in the U.S. were suffering from an average of 2.5 chronic diseases or conditions in addition to COVID-19.

The CDC admits that they double count deaths. “Deaths involving more than one condition (e.g., deaths involving both diabetes and respiratory arrest) were counted in both totals. “ That means that a person who is murdered but tests positive for COVID-19 is tallied as both a murder death and a COVID-19 death. It is for that reason that the CDC advises: “To avoid counting the same death multiple times, the numbers for different conditions should not be summated.”

Furthermore, the CDC admits that its statistics of COVID-19 deaths are not confirmed to have COIVID-19. The COVID-19 statistics include both “[d]eaths with confirmed or presumed COVID-19.”

Even assuming that every one of the 31 children died “from” COVID-19 (which is to assume something that the CDC admits is not the case) there is simply no way that an illness that accounts for the deaths of only 31 children nationwide can justify closing virtually every elementary and middle school in the United States.

But if we extrapolate from the fact that 94% of all CDC reported COVID-19 deaths have an average of 2.5 chronic diseases in addition to COVID-19, we find that only 6% of the 31 children between the ages of 5 and 14 years old died exclusively “from” COVID-19. Thus, we find that only two (2) children between the ages of 5 and 14 years old died exclusively from COVID-19. That shockingly low number of deaths from COVID–19 for the entire United States is no justification for closing down virtually every elementary and middle school in the United States.

Another notable fact about the CDC statistics is that of all persons in the United States between the ages of 15 years old and 24 years old, only 353 people died with COVID-19 between February 1, 2020, to September 19, 2020. Again, those persons are reported as deaths “involving” COVID-19, not deaths from COVID-19. But the number of deaths does not justify closing down virtually every high school and college in the country.

If we take the CDC at its word that only 6% of all reported COVID-19 deaths died only “from” COVID-19,  we find the only 21 of the persons between the ages of 15 and 24 died exclusively “from” COVID-19.  That extremely low number of deaths exclusively from COVID–19 across the entire United States for persons 15-24 years of age is no justification for closing down virtually every high school and college in the United States.

  1. Thank you for bring this to our attention and appreciate your apt advise and inspired insights of the true saving knowledge of the gospel of Lord Jesus Christ!

  2. The best available evidence indicates that COVID-19 poses relatively low risks to school-aged children. Children appear to be at lower risk for contracting COVID-19 compared to adults. To put this in perspective, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of July 17, 2020, the United States reported that children and adolescents under 18 years old account for under 7 percent of COVID-19 cases and less than 0.1 percent of COVID-19-related deaths.
